as the positive case numbers are growing we are concerned every class has a chance to get a positive case and its just a matter of time until potentially entire school gets it.
Leigh Hyun
10:31
Mr. Kim, Are the students with positive cases asymptomatic? It seems Daily pass may not screen the cases.
Allison Lee
11:50
Hi Principal Kim, were any kids allowed to return after the 8 days of quarantine with only PENDING results given that the results weren’t synced with generating QR codes on Daily Pass.
Sarah Greene
12:46
The weekly PCR will help catch asymptomatic cases
Tushita
14:17
Hi Mr. Kim , do we quarantine the whole class or the room where the child was in or just the close contacts ?
Simron Gill
17:18
How does the after care programs play into this? They mix the Kinder classrooms and I imagine they can’t really track who is next to who as the kids mix and mingle quite a bit. If we have exposure for a kid in aftercare, wouldn’t that potentially shut down multiple classes?
Derek Waleko
17:23
Is there any way to speed up the testing results? The first positive case wasn’t discovered until Wednesday after Monday’s test. That would mean the students had three lunches with masks off together. If the results can be received sooner that would be a big help.
David Byrne
19:12
I think, rightfully so, the focus has been on confirmed cases and symptoms that line up strongly with Covid, but I’m having trouble finding info about what to do if your kid has a symptom that only loosely lines up with Covid (stomach ache, etc). Do we keep them home and wait for a negative test result? And is there a quarantine time? Thanks!
Sarah Greene
19:28
Just wanted to add that if your child is a close contact, you can test on your own 2-3 days after the exposure if you would like - either with a rapid or a PCR. You still need the day 6-7 PCR test to return but it can be helpful for household quarantining.

I understand covid testing is done in the auditorium. Since students need to unmask for the test, would it be safer to test outside?
Keely Gillman
24:36
Can you confirm that, to date, none of the close contacts have gone on to test positive - this would be displayed in the report card if so. Thanks!
Neenu
25:40
Hi! I was under the impression that all positive cases will need to be tested before coming back but did I misunderstand and they actually DONT get tested due to the high probability of false positives? If this were true how do we know for sure then that the individual is truly not contagious on/after Day 10?
Sarah Greene
27:05
You should not get retested after a confirmed positive case. You are cleared after 10 days
Suarez, Paola A.
27:25
We did not send our son to HS out of abundance of caution
Marsha
27:30
What is the protocol at the school if a student appears to be sick? Is the teacher instructed to send that student home?
Suarez, Paola A.
27:36
And entire family got PRCs
Sarah Greene
28:52
You can test positive for up to 4 weeks but the PCR picks up genetic material of dead viruses, not necessarily live virus (only live virus is contagious).
Sarah Greene
30:19
Are close contacts offered testing for their return to school at 3rd street or do they have to get that testing on their own?
Marsha
32:03
Is LAUSD considering doing rapid testing? It seems like that would help with not having many days of exposure after the PCR test.
Gigi Blatt
32:43
I don’t think rapid testing has good accuracy.
Tony
33:27
maybe it's already been addressed....can we tested to Friday?
Tony
33:46
oops nevermind Prin. Kim just mentioned it
Keely Gillman
33:52
I got the notification of the test result this morning but my daughter's result has been available in the parent portal since Weds - so worth checking there if you haven't heard anything.
Allison Lee
34:24
Principal Kim, Our teacher does this great thing at dismissal where he has each kid hit up the hand sanitizer before they had home. Would it be possible to do this and have the TAs walk them to the restrooms before lunch? I know that this is a school policy, but I’m not sure it’s actually being done for the primary kids.
Gigi Blatt
34:37
If your child has symptoms, they need to stay home!
Laura Sheppard
34:50
I picked my son up from kids kor in the kinder yard, the kids were having snacks so all unmasked and he was sitting shoulder to shoulder with another kid, quite a few of the kids were sitting this close unmasked. Would it be possible to please remind kids kor of the importance of covid protocols. Thank you !
Ellen Cho
36:39
I understand that kids can snack during both of their recesses in addition to lunchtime. Could we consider limiting snack time in order to limit unmasked time?
Angela Maehara
36:40
It says an unvaccinated who tested positive for covid is isolated for 10 days and can return on day 11th if asymptomatic. They say the child will NOT have to re- tested for 90 days... is this correct?
louiseedgley
37:00
How much control does the school have over procedures vs LAUSD?
Gigi Blatt
37:39
Thank you Dr. Greene!
Suarez, Paola A.
38:03
In Miami they do both rapid and PCR at sametime. My cousin (vaccinated) got a positive rapid one within 20 minutes. She was able to pull her kid out right away
Suarez, Paola A.
38:07
They are great

It’s about $30+ for 2 kits in CVS or Ralph’s
Neenu
39:23
Correction $24 for Abbott’s BinaxNOW rapid tests. It comes with 2 kits.
Sarah Greene
40:20
Correct @angela, you don’t need to retest for 90 days once you’ve tested positive
Simron Gill
41:23
Dr. Greene, I heard that during flu seasons the accuracy of PCR tests will drop
Simron Gill
41:24
Is that true?
Gigi Blatt
42:27
Please do not use masks with exhalation valves!
Sarah Greene
43:56
They may be referring to the protest probability dropping - meaning your odds of having COVID with symptoms last winter were pretty high, this winter hopefully COVID rates will be lower and we will likely see many other viruses like flu. That will mean more false positive PCRs for COVID bc the odds before testing (protest probability) will be lower.
Simron Gill

Nida Nunez-Murrell
55:43
Principal Kim, can you please clarify that we can submit external PCR testing rather than going to an LAUSD testing site? I was told that no external PCR testing will be approved.
Heather K.

Gigi Blatt
01:06:15
Isn’t it PCR test and an outside test result would be uploaded to the Easy Pass portal for approval, so LAUSD would vet it.
Neenu
01:06:27
I share the same concern about Fri testing - if we’re learning that most of the cases we have is community acquired then wouldn’t we miss an exposure window before kids show up in school
Ava
01:07:52
There are mobile sites that do offer Pcr test results within 3-5 hours. Such as, https://claritymv.com/This mobile site is partnered with LAX and so many of the travelers that need a pcr prior to flight take offs can get a test result. they also locations offsite from lax.
