General Exposure Info Meeting - Shared screen with speaker view
Allison Lee
13:20
Principal Kim, could you share why results that came back INVALID and INCONCLUSIVE were able to generate Daily Passes?
Jenn Rojas
14:22
How and when are positive results flagged specifically to you? Have any siblings in other classes been told to quarantine?
P G
15:10
what is the protocol for contact tracing? if the students from different classes play together during lunch time.
Suarez, Paola A.
15:19
With Delta exposure time should be shorter 😬
Neenu
15:31
how long is the quarantine period typically? is it different for those who are mere close contacts, showing no symptoms and retested after 5 days with a negative results?
Kerry J
16:10
how will attendance be handled during quarantine?
Yi
16:22
does the student need to get tested on their own?
Neenu
17:21
how are siblings of close contacts not in the same classroom treated? what about that siblings' class- how far does contact tracing go within the school?
Derek Waleko
17:37
Did the school’s Monday COVID-19 testing catch this positive result?
Lauren MacKenzie’s
17:39
Because ETK and TK (and kinder?) share a playground together, if someone in one of those classes tests positive will all classes be notified?
mandy
17:54
When did the test result come in? We had our result from Monday before we got our daily pass yesterday?
Sarah Fuller
19:02
Is Kids Kor also notified in case kids are in contact there?
Laura Sheppard
19:13
Could you clarify what you mean by ‘quarantine is done on a voluntary basis’? surely every positive case and close contact is required to quarantine
Ellen Cho
19:35
LAUSD dashboard is showing 2 cases at 3rd. Is the 2nd case new today or is that part of the situation yesterday?
Gloria Park
19:40
How many kids involved this time?? could you tell us which class was??
Susan Cheng
19:45
Thanks to Third Street Elementary team and LAUSD for all that you do! Hard work during unprecedented times!
Mary Mendoza
19:50
What about TAs or other staff that go from class to class?
Gloria Park
20:23
what if we have a lot of cases happened, what will be your plan??
Gloria Park
21:01
Do you have any plan to start online class again??
Gigi Blatt
21:03
The Safe Steps dashboard didn’t show any cases until this morning. It now shows 2 cases at Third Street. I’ve seen two children wearing masks with valves. Can we make sure students wear appropriate masks? The valves don’t keep us safe.
Allison Lee
21:31
I’ve talked to a number of Kinder parents and it doesn’t seem like hand washing happens before recess and lunch. Would the TAs be able to physically walk the kids to the restrooms?
Kerry J
22:26
is the day 5 test done at school?
Patzy
22:27
Will there be online instruction for children who have to quarantine?
Neenu
23:05
there seems to be a lag in release of results, just with my 2 kids - even if they are tested on the same day I get one result the same evening or next day while the other is a day behind. just worried that it creates a possible exposure gap.
Sarah Greene
23:14
Neenu, siblings of a contact should not have to quarantine (unless their sibling who was exposed turns positive). Contacts of a contact don’t quarantine. Only direct contacts.
Suarez, Paola A.
23:52
Thank you for that! The attendance award
Jean's iPhone X
24:18
Is everyone in a class with a positive case considered to be in close contact per LAUSD? Or just students who sit near the student who tested positive?
Marsha
26:03
Was the child symptomatic?
amanda perez
26:34
John Burroughs middle school went through this last week. My older son is there. It is very unsettling, to be sure. Please know that Principal Kim does not have control over when results are available or when effected families will be contacted by LAUSD’s community engagement team.
Sarah Kim
26:47
Is there any indication that this was a class transmission? Was there only 1 positive case? Or any child in the exposed class missing school from any symptoms?
Gloria Park
27:19
what is the best way to protect our kids safely?? Even I sent my kid to school, I still felt like a little shaking, not comfortable...
Patzy
27:29
Is the new case related to the first case?
mandy
27:31
Was the new case from the same classroom?
Suarez, Paola A.
27:38
Was Jean's question answered?
David Liepe
27:44
Its room 1
Anne Pearce
27:46
Will we find out if other students then test positive after being exposed to the initial case? Will we be informed if it turns into an "outbreak"? Also, do students who test positive test again to identify possible false positives?
Patzy
28:15
Does that apply to the entire class or children within six ft during classroom time
Sarah Greene
28:18
CA Department of Public Health is now recommending that exposed classrooms still come to school and quarantine in the classroom (if it was a masked exposure) -no enrichment or extracurriculars. Is there any word if LA County/LAUSD will be adopting this recommendation?
Josiah T. Park
28:26
Does the positive case get tested again on their own to confirm??
Suarez, Paola A.
28:51
Is everyone in the class asked to go on quarantine?
Anne Pearce
28:58
I've read that one of the best preventative measures is ventilation (and I know we have new filtration systems), but can we please try to keep classroom doors open?
Olivia Lee
29:00
What about siblings of close contact kids they do not get zoom class right.
Sarah Greene
29:48
Siblings of close contacts shouldn’t need to quarantine, only siblings of positive cases.
Xuejing’s iPhone
30:25
Can we please try to keep classroom doors open, since there are no windows in classroom?
Neenu
31:17
not sure if the question about shared TAs has been answered but do we assume if they're vaccinated and provided they are asymptomatic and retested as negative they are allowed back on campus on day 8?
Sarah Kim
31:31
Echoing Anne - I have emailed the safety committee about CO2 monitors that measure air quality and lets teachers know when to ventilate
Xuejing’s iPhone
31:37
Or can we try to add windows in classrooms?
amanda perez
31:58
PLEASE have your children wear masks out in the community.
Caroline Tracy
32:45
What Amanda said!
Patzy
32:47
Will children who have to quarantine have online instruction?
lauren
32:47
Might be nice for kids to have class inside and outside!
Sarah Frank-Meltzer, LCSW
32:48
PSA: LAUSD is offering mobile vaxx sites at middle schools for all who are eligible (12+ children/adults of all ages) from 8:30-3:30p. GALA (@ LA High) on Aug. 30th and Burroughs on Sept. 1, and many other local schools, pharmacies, etc. This is the best way to protect our younger students who are not yet eligible to be vaxxed and to slow community transmission.
Marta Aguilar
33:40
John Burroughs had 5 positive tests that where false at kaiser
Kerry J
34:07
another school had a positive test result last week which turned out to be a false positive
Derek Waleko
34:11
Will positive case be zooming in for that 3 months for classes?
Xuejing’s iPhone
36:46
I searched from the LAUSD website that there are two cases in 3rd st el. Are the two cases confirmed or might be false?
Allison Lee
38:22
Would parents or the parent organization be open to donating CO2 monitors so that teachers know when to open doors? Attended a seminar by Speak Up America that recommended such devices to monitor ventilation. Ready to draft a letter to ask Aranet for donations.
Patzy
39:14
Are both confirmed cases related?
Keely Gillman
39:23
I'm all for fresh air but are there not security concerns with open doors in schools?
Gloria Park
39:25
Thank you so much for your these Zoom meeting. At least I have an idea what is going on in our school. I still can send my kid with a lot of relief feeling. Thanks a lot again!!
Ellen Cho
40:01
Allison - I think you’ll have a lot of support for the CO2 monitors.
Donna Driscoll
40:37
Yes, thank you for this zoom Principal Kim.
Marsha
41:09
Thank you for this meeting and all that you are doing
Sharif Atkins
41:13

lauren
41:58
Yes thank you. Important to remember we’re all still trying to figure this out together!
Alina Moffat
42:06
what if anything is being communicated to the kids from their teachers?
Cara Greene Epstein
42:14
Echoing all above, thank you so much for your transparency and care, Principal Kim!
Anne Pearce
42:38
Agreed! Thank you to Principal Kim for being willing to answer questions from a lot of nervous parents.
Marsha
42:38
In the future, if you hear a child coughing upon entry, will you send them home? I heard a child coughing a lot upon entry Tuesday and she was let in and I asked an aide if that is even allowed right now
Rahul
42:44
How should families be isolating with the child at home? Everyone needs to be masking?
Manisha Bajaj
42:53
If we do not quarantine the siblings there will be 5 day lag for sibling next covid test. Then there will be increase in the risk of spreading it
Rahul
43:08
Are we supposed to act as if we assume he is positive until he has a test in 5 days?
Jennifer Kimpo
43:35
thank you so much for all
Jennifer Kimpo
43:42
you do principal kim!
Jamie Kim
43:47
can we borrow a laptop from the tech lab if we need to quarantine?
Gigi Blatt
44:59
With the rate of false positives, why would I want my child to sit in a class with exposures?
Gigi Blatt
45:43
My comment was response to the idea that we send exposed kids to quarantine together.
Neenu
46:00
for those close contacts who are now quarantining, if any of them show symptoms how does lausd monitor additional cases that come up from the group while they are out of school?
Leigh Hyun
46:38
Mr. Kim, Much appreciated taking your time to answer all questions during these difficult times.
Laura Million
47:10
Do we know our community’s vaccination rate?
Sarah Greene
47:11
Yes. Thank you for all of the time and effort!

Caroline Tracy
49:42

Meg Marcus
49:57
Thank you for this session, and your patience and understanding and information, Principal Kim (and faculty and staff!!)!!!I know that we are all being as safe as possible/realistic (especially considering all our students are at risk by going to school in person, relative to staying isolated at home for the school year), and that no one is trying to get (let alone spread) COVID. Thanks to all for patience and as much grace as we can all muster through understandable anxiety! It helps all our students and families.
Caroline Tracy
